AMAN VISITS OLDEST RECORD LABEL IN NIGERIA, SEEK PARTNERSHIP WITH PREMIER RECORDS

The Artiste Managers Association In Nigeria (AMAN) started its AMAN YEAR with its Creative Industry Networking Tour of Nigeria’s foremost record label, PREMIER RECORDS, originally known as Polygram. Starting the AMAN YEAR (2025) with an official visit to Nigeria’s oldest record label, PREMIER RECORDS did not come as a surprise, considering AMAN’S mission and commitment to collaborating with industry stakeholders to enhance Artiste management culture in Nigeria by providing a networking platform for CREATIVES to come together to interface and work for the betterment of the creative industries in Nigeria.

Speaking during the visit, the general manager of Premier Records Mr. Michael Odiong and his team, welcomed the AMAN president Mr. Collins Ifeanyi Onwuneme Ajereh Enebeli Mavin Grandpa for his visionary leadership and the role he has played in the creative industries over the years. He stressed the importance of artistes signing up with credible record labels to enhance their artistry for economic advantage. While responding to his welcome remarks, Mavin Grandpa highlighted the long-standing relationship between PREMIER RECORDS and the ARTISTE MANAGERS ASSOCIATION IN NIGERIA. Mavin Grandpa also used the opportunity to thank PREMIER RECORDS for their support during the maiden edition of the AMAN AWARDS held in Eko Hotel in 2023. The AMAN Global Spokesperson Lady Karifest Duchess Onyekaah Esq., urged AMAN members present to take seriously the role records labels play in the success of artistes career and the need for artistes to cooperate with their records label by respecting contracts between them and their records label regardless of their fame, influence and success.

A tour of the PREMIER RECORDS facility was conducted by Mr. Michael Odiong who showed AMAN members what an Artiste contract looked like in the past, the various mediums of recording music back in the days and the high point of the visit came when Mr. Michael Odiong showed AMAN members some of the works of legendary artistes like Fela, Ras kimono, Victor Olaiya, Orits Wiliki, Evi Edna Ogholi, Victor Uwaifo, Mike Ejeagha and other musicians of their era signed to PREMIER RECORDS which was known as Polygram at the time. Mike Ejeagha whose work became an internet sensation recently is also the oldest surviving Artiste signed to PREMIER RECORDS. He has continued to receive royalties for his work ENYI NAGA and other works by him.
